Changing The Pattern

2020 was, as we can all agree a rubbish year but I think we can all agree we have learnt something either about the world or about ourselves. I have certainly learnt more about myself in 2020 than I have ever done in my 25 years on this beautiful planet.

At 25, with a house and a fiancé the need to clean and tidy has become incredibly annoying. In September it got to the point where it became a bit of an obsession that I couldn’t find the mental or physical power to keep up with. I had a cleaning schedule that was, looking back now, entirely bonkers. Somehow, please don’t ask me how, I slowly realised that what I was doing wasn’t healthy so I decided to make a purchase. I purchased Mrs Hinch. The Little Book Of Lists and it helped be organise my thoughts and cleaning schedule so much more than the list I had created for myself. It taught me to spread out the cleaning though out the week and month and since then I have had a much calmer outlook on my cleaning process, been less frantic and come to the understanding with myself that if I don’t clean something on that specific day, that’s okay!

I had also become obsessed with planning to be a parent (No, I’m not pregnant and not likely to be for a fair few years but I’m a forward thinking and over planner) and with that I thought I had to cook home made meals everynight and I had to practice doing this so that when a child did come along I would already be mentally prepared to cook every evening to give them a nutritional and healthy meal but again, I came to the realisation that, if I so happen to feed my child a ready meal once in a while, that’s okay. It became apparent that no matter how much I prepare to be a parent, I don’t think I will ever be fully ready and that being a parent comes with time & practise. I will always be a planning type of person, that will never change but I know how to manage it so much better now.
